Part A - Makai webapp

1. Introduction

1.1. This Privacy Policy (together with our Terms and Conditions (available at https://usemakai.ai/terms), together our "Terms of Use") applies to your use of:

  • usemakai.ai;
  • the Makai app;
  • any service you receive through the elements listed in paragraphs 1.1.2-1.1.4, the "Services" and the apps listed in paragraphs 1.1.1 to 1.1.4, the "Makai" App.

1.2. Our Terms of Use establish the basis on which the personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. We invite you to read carefully the following to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it.

1.3. Our Terms of Use do not apply to third-party websites, applications or software that are (i) reached through the Services or (ii) accessible through or from the Makai App.

2. Information we may collect from you and how we use it

We only collect essential data to ensure the proper functioning of the Services. Through the Services, you provide us with:

2.1. Information through services such as Discord.

2.2. Responses to surveys regarding the Makai Apps.

2.3. If you contact us, we will also collect the email address you use and the content of your email (including any attachments).

3. Purpose for using your information

3.1. We use your data to fulfill our legal obligations and for our legitimate interests, or those of a third party. We:

  • Use data in a way you would expect from us, for example to ensure the proper functioning of the Makai App, resolve issues and improve performance.
  • Fulfill our legal and moral reporting obligations. If the Services are used for criminal purposes (including, but not limited to, use to incite, encourage, instigate, facilitate or enable a crime) we will work to provide the data we collect to the competent authorities and/or law enforcement.
  • Perform security checks and maintenance to ensure our services work properly.
  • Manage business risk and financial matters of Makai.

3.2. We use your data to:

  • Send you messages regarding your account and the services you use if you contact us.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints and other issues.

4. Disclosure of your data

We may disclose your data to:

4.1. Anyone you authorize us to share your data with.

4.2. We may share your data with authorities and/or law enforcement (including, but not limited to, police, Interpol, a court or other dispute resolution bodies), particularly if the law requires us to do so or if we consider it necessary.

5. International transfers

External third parties may be based outside the European Economic Area (the "EEA"). Their processing of your data will involve a transfer of data outside the EEA.

6. Data retention

Generally, we will not retain your personal information for more than 6 years after our relationship with you has ended, unless we must retain it for legal reasons, or if we believe you have abused the Services or used them for illegal or criminal purposes.

7. Third-party sites

Any website or service accessible through the Services has its own privacy policies. We do not accept any responsibility or obligation for such policies or for the personal data that may be collected through such sites or services.

9. Changes to our terms

This Privacy Policy is reviewed regularly and was last updated in October 2024. Our Privacy Policy may change and any changes will be published on this page. You may be required to accept the modified Privacy Policy to continue using any part of the Services that may process your personal data.

10. Your legal rights

10.1. You have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Request deletion of any personal data we hold about you, although it may not always be possible to do so for legal reasons.
  • Revoke any consent you have given us.

Part B - Makai Chrome Extension

1. What the Extension Does

The Makai Chrome Extension is a browser tool that runs on LinkedIn profile pages. When you click "Extract Profile", it reads publicly visible information from the page you are currently viewing and allows you to save it as a lead in your Makai CRM account. The extension only activates on linkedin.com/in/* pages and only processes data when you explicitly take an action.

2. Data Collected by the Extension

When you click Extract Profile, the extension reads the following fields from the visible LinkedIn page:

  • Full name
  • Job title
  • Company name and company LinkedIn URL
  • Location
  • Number of connections
  • Website URL (if publicly listed)
  • Email address (only if visible in the Contact Info section)
  • Phone number (only if visible in the Contact Info section)

When you click Enrich with Company Data, the extension opens the company's LinkedIn page in a background tab, reads publicly visible company information (industry, employee count, website, headquarters location, founded year), and immediately closes the tab.

The extension does not read your own LinkedIn profile. It does not monitor your browsing history. It does not run on any page other than linkedin.com/in/* profile pages.

3. How the Extension Uses Data

Data extracted by the extension is:

  • Stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local so you can review it before saving
  • Sent to your Makai CRM account at usemakai.ai only when you explicitly click "Add to Makai"
  • Never sent to any third party
  • Never used for advertising or analytics

Authentication is handled entirely through your existing Makai account session (NextAuth). The extension does not store or transmit any passwords or API keys.

4. Permissions and Why We Need Them

  • linkedin.com access - required to read profile data from the page you are viewing when you click Extract Profile
  • usemakai.ai access - required to send lead data to your Makai account and to verify your login session
  • storage - required to cache extracted profiles locally between sessions so data is not lost if you close the panel
  • scripting - required to inject the sidebar UI into LinkedIn pages so you can interact with the extension without leaving the page, and to extract company data from company pages opened in the background
  • tabs - required to open a company LinkedIn page in a background tab for enrichment, and to close it automatically after data is extracted

5. Data Retention

Data stored locally by the extension (chrome.storage.local) remains on your device until you clear it through the extension or uninstall it. Data sent to your Makai account is subject to Part A of this policy.

6. Third Parties

The extension does not communicate with any third-party service. All data goes exclusively to usemakai.ai using your authenticated session. LinkedIn's own privacy policy governs the data that is publicly visible on their platform.
